SharePoint Saturday DC to Take Place May 15, Following the May 12 Launch of SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010

SharePoint Saturday DC, which is expected to attract between 500-800 attendees, announces a call for speakers and sponsors.

ATLANTA — SharePoint Saturday DC, a free community‐focused SharePoint event dedicated to educating and engaging members of the technical community, will take place May 15, following the May 12 launch of SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Community Cultural Center at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia. According to SharePoint Saturday event co-chair, Dux Raymond Sy, Washington D.C. has one of the heaviest concentrations of SharePoint implementations in the world.

In addition, a call for speakers and potential sponsors for SharePoint Saturday DC is now open. The submission deadline for SharePoint Saturday DC speaker proposals is April 1, 2010. Prospective speakers can download the submission form by visiting www.sharepointsaturday.org/dc.

Since SharePoint Saturdays are free, non-profit events, the organization relies on the support and generosity of sponsors to compensate for the expenses incurred during an event. Sponsors will receive a receipt issued by the non-profit organization, SharePoint Saturday. There are three categories of sponsorships available:

Platinum Level - $2000 USD (5 available)
Gold Level - $1200 USD (8 available)
Silver Level - $800 USD (8 available)

To sponsor the event, visit www.sharepointsaturday.org/dc to download a form and then fax the completed form to 1-415-946-3309 or email it to spsdc@innovative-e.us

SharePoint Saturday events, which take place in various cities nationwide, draw upon the expertise of SharePoint IT professionals, developers and solutions architects from across the country who come together to share their real world experiences, lessons learned, best practices, and general knowledge with other like‐minded individuals.

SharePoint Saturday was founded by Michael Lotter, who is the chief organizer of each event. Event co-chairs include, Jennifer Davis, Gino Degregori, Eric Harlan, Becky Isserman, Kevin Israel, Susan Lennon, Dux Raymond Sy, and Dan Usher. Attended by 200 people, the first SharePoint Saturday was held in Virginia Beach on Jan. 10, 2009. Volunteers organized the event and marketing was purely facilitated through word of mouth and social media. The event was a resounding success as participants gained a lot from presentations covering SharePoint administration, development, end user and special interest tracks. Soon after, with the support of various sponsors, local volunteers organized SharePoint Saturday events in Kansas City, New York City, Boston, Tulsa, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

“SharePoint Saturday events are unique because they are community-driven. These free one-day seminars are developed by SharePoint professionals for SharePoint professionals, and each session is led by industry experts from around the country who are on the cutting edge of the latest SharePoint trends and topics,” said Dux Raymond Sy, managing partner for Innovative-e, Inc.
